Don’t Get the Wrong Idea

Contributed By Calisha Bennett, Western Australia

Sometimes Muslims may give you the wrong idea about Islam I suppose
Because you see them doing the very things that they are meant to oppose
It may be drinking alcohol, lying, fornication or drugs
Or sometimes these Muslims are murderous thugs
Who abuse and steal without any care
The consequences of these actions they are unaware
They may deceive and betray those who cross their path
While ahead what awaits them is Almighty God’s wrath
But what I really want the world to understand
Is that everyone has a choice to obey God’s command
A choice between the right and the wrong
Because it is God to whom we belong
In Islam it is not just being a Muslim that will save you
It is abstaining from the sins that can enslave you
It is acting upon God’s commands with sincerity
And knowing that doing good will bring one prosperity
Before judging Islam learn about it from good sources
The Quran and Hadith* - not what the media endorses
Not all Muslims are terrorists and transgressors
And not all Muslim men are woman oppressors
What’s wrong is wrong
Whether the culprits are Muslim, Christian, Atheist or Jew
Don’t blame the entire religion because of a reckless few
So it’s important not to judge Islam by what the Muslims do
Because some are weak while others don’t have a clue
It’s everyone’s responsibility to seek knowledge and learn
Which path to take in life and which way to turn
Islam has a way that is so clean and so pure
For the many problems in life it can be the cure
We’ve got to give this remedy a chance
To guide one in life and to enhance
One’s spiritual, physical and mental well being
In order to acknowledge that God is The All-Seeing
As Muslims we believe that each soul will have to account
For that which their good and evil deeds amount
So let’s not point fingers or make excuses
For the one who will not submit and refuses
Judge Islam for what it is in truth and fact
And not by those who have turned their back

* Hadith - a tradition based on reports of the sayings and activities of Prophet Muhammad and his companions
